As member of BOS in English and BORS in Arts I have assisted in the formulation of Syllabi at the Post Graduate and Under Graduate level according to UGC guidelines. At the research level I have broadened the scope of research in the department by using the multidisciplinary approach to the study of gender. Scholars are working on innovative areas like women and peace, gender and displacement, Kashmiri Diaspora etc.
19. What innovations in the teaching-learning process have you introduced in the last five years?
Besides active teaching interspersed with new insights and approaches, I have supplemented my lectures with seminars, colloquiums, book-reviews and term papers. My technique of imparting classroom teaching has usually provided the students with adequate opportunities for greater teacher-taught interaction in any concerned course. My sincere endeavour in the classroom is to introduce the students to the subtitles of literature, and create an awareness of the subject’s relevance to concerns of day to day life.

I have been actively involved in various Colleges and institutes to offer guidance in the areas on Communication Skills, Personality development and creating Gender Sensitivity in professional and personal spheres. It is in these three broad areas that my expertise can be available for consultancy services.

As a teacher of English Literature, my endeavour has been to foster interest and commitment among the learners, in the interest of the academic growth and progress of our university.
1. I have offered courses in English as a spoken language in the classes organized by the institute of Continuing Education, University of Jammu.
2. I have been counselling students under the aegis of IGNOU, on varied topics like Writing about Women, Travel Writing, TV and Radio Plays etc.
3. Outside the University I have conducted courses on Grammar and Spoken English at the Institute of Journalism, Bahrtiya Vidya Bhawan.
4. For a Number of years I have been involved in the preparation and presentation of English language and literature programmes for school children conducted by the School Broadcast Section of Radio Kashmir, Jammu. Two of my programmes were selected for broadcast at the National Level, and were highly appreciated.
5. I have also prepared and conducted a series of programmes under the heading “Prounance it well,” for the Yuv Vani Section of Radio Kashmir, Jammu.
6. Besides this I have delivered several talks on the varied topics in the “English Talks” series of Radio Kashmir, Jammu.
7. I have participated in women-oriented chat shows aired on Doordarshan, Jammu.
8. I am presently engaged writing a series of articles on a wide range of topical issues for news papers and magazines.
9. I am involved in the preparation and assessment of Graduate and Post Graduate courses conducted by the Institute of Correspondence and Distance Education and IGNOU.
10. For the past five years I have taught a course on Writing Skills to Ist Semester LLB students of the Law Department, University of Jammu.

April, 2008: It was decided to have a potential MOU between McMaster University and the University of Jammu with an emphasis on collaboration in the area of Peace and Conflict studies and exchange of student interns working on the Maihla Shanti Sena project in India and between the Centre for Peace Studies, McMaster University and the Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu.
