As Convenor, Board Of Studies In Home Science, I Have Made Efforts For Systematic Revisions Of U.G And P.G Curricula On An Yearly Basis. In 2002, All Home Science Courses Were Revised As Per The UGC National Frame Work Curriculum. During Later Years After Its Adoption, All The Courses Are Being Reframed And Revised As A Continuous Process. Major Revision Of U.G. & P.G Courses is being undertaken presently (2008).

19. What Innovations In Teaching-Learning Process Have You Introduced In The Last Five Years?

Classroom environment made more student friendly.

EQ based interventions in the class to improve motivational factors for better acceptability of the teacher and the subject matter. Personal counselling and encouraging students for personality development through self introspection are important inputs in this context

Use of OHP, computer and internet in classroom teaching

Use of other Audio-Visual aids like instructional materials published by UNICEF, NCERT, NIPCCD etc.

Activities such as field visits, relating theory with context and preparation of documents like files from newspaper clippings of related topics etc.

Ø Consultancy has been provided in the following areas mainly for pre-schools / schools.

Ø Planning for setting up preschool/ day care centres.

Ø Programmes run by pre-schools/ schools for young children

Ø Empowerment strategies for teachers

Ø Finances have been generated in terms of sponsorship money from schools etc. for organizing workshops/ holding seminars etc.

As a part of syllabi provide extension experiences to students for work with Women, children, NGO’s and children with special needs.
Work with regional and international NGO’s especially OXFAM/GB in their work on Humanitarian Crisis.
As a part of the syllabi, conducted the extension and out reach activities in the rural, slum, and urban localities. Worked to help the institutions for children with special needs by generating funds and also by preparing teaching material for them.
Organized a six-day camp at Chouhala (R.S.Pura) for the adolescent girls. Various organizations working for the women’s development were motivated to take part and make the girls and their mothers aware of the avenues available for them. Family life education was also a part of the programme.
Delivered lectures to the Gazetted police officers, at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Training College Udhampur, about “Understanding Human Behaviour” .
Helped in organising activities and preparation of visual aids for children in the hospital wards, at the Government Hospital.

Currently I am working as a consultant in project sanctioned to Prof. Rajni Dhingra (H.O.D) by NIPPCD (National Institute for Public Corporation and Child Development), a primer national institute related to child welfare, New Delhi. This project is related to the monitoring of ICDS scheme in Jammu division of J&K and is operational since August 2008 for a period of three years.

I was part of the committee which recommended changes in B.Sc. Home Science course curriculum in 2005- 06.
I also participated in formulating the syllabus for Ph.D entrance in Home Science in 2007.
Been member of committee responsible for framing syllabus for Early childhood Development (ECD) diploma course.
Been/am member of Nursery school curriculum framing body.
Now also I am participating in the course revision process of M.Sc Home Science (Human Development) begin undertaken since August 2008.

Innovations in teaching-learning process:

Use of Internet and computers is encouraged.
Referring of latest journals and books is an integral part of teaching.
Students are required to prepare seminars on current issues and topics of relevance and present them.
Where ever possible students are placed in institutions and organizations for gaining on job training.
Tutorials and in formal interactions with students are also held regularly.
Sample work of students such as some A-V aids are displayed at prominent places in the department.

20. Give the broad areas of consultancy services provided by you during the last five years. Give details of the nature of consultancy services and finances generated.

Consultancy has been provided for those interested in setting up their own Early Childhood Care and Education centers. Such services have especially been provided to girls and women belonging to low SES families.
Informal assessment of children with various psychological and emotional problems has been carried out. I have worked with a few school administrators and counsellors.
Consultancy has also been provided to a number of NGO’s and other social welfare organizations.
Consultancy services have been also provided to state Govt. teachers under Sarav Siksha Abhiyan.
Administrators of special needs institutes have also worked with us.
Also, consultancy for NET/SET is also provided.

All these activities have been carried out for nonprofit reasons but in the near future I plan to draw some revenue out of these.

· I am part of the Departmental Placement Committee and as such maintain liaison with a number of potential job providers.

As part of the Departmental placement initiative organized and participated in the Industry- University Interface organized by P.G. Department of Home Science, University of Jammu on June 7th, 2007. Mr. Sidarath Arora, Branch Head, HDFC Bank was the special invitee on the occasion.
Plans are under progress to invite a few organizations for campus placement of students.

Complete profile of all out going student is maintained.
Information of all major Departmental events is given to ex-students via e-mail or telephone.
Once the student is absorbed in the job market they are encouraged to inform us and provide official details to us.
Informal meetings and visits are also conducted.

The Ist semester students are placed in Early childhood care and education centers and the IVth semester students are placed in institutions for special need children. since 2003 onwards I am supervising both these activities.

In year 2005 and 2006 the department carried out an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Diploma for MJSS students. I undertook the course on institutional management during both the sessions.
A number of programmes have been organized for women and children belonging to weaker and disadvantaged sections of the society. I have actively participated in all such activities since 2003.
Number of outreach activities for children such as those affected by militancy, poverty, violence, illiteracy have been carried out and I have participated in such activities.
We in the department have also worked with a number of NGO’s and other welfare organizations.

Am part of the committee which looks into the functioning of the Departmental Nursery school. I am especially responsible for parental suggestion and liaison.
