As regards the newness of the teaching techniques an attempt is being made to emphasize on learning rather than on teaching. It is believed that instead of transmitting the knowledge in the mechanical manner the skills of learning be taught to the students and empower them to acquire knowledge on their own. The challenges in this connection start with converting disinterested students to interested learners and may end with the best few becoming excellent teachers and researchers with abilities to contribute and add to the knowledge. Towards this the course content is being presented in a manner, which does not look common sensical and appears to be useful in at least in understanding and changing one’s own personal behavior. Further cooperative learning processes have been adopted wherein mixed ability groups are formed and tasked to study, design and present their learning experiences pertaining to various aspects of one particular topic. The questioning, enterprising and innovative ways of the students is always being encouraged to nurture originality. The impact is visible in the sense that attendance has improved, participation in classroom discussion and working in teams and the academic performance has significantly increased. (External evaluators are testing the students in a confidential manner not known to the teacher and her students).
