Contribution towards development/ change in courses during last five years
I have been actively engaged in designing the Courses of the Department. The syllabus for M.A. Sociology was changed in 2002 in accordance with the UGC guidelines and NET requirement. The B.A.(Sociology) Part -1, II and III syllabus was revised in 2008. The syllabus for M.Phil. was designed in 2003 and has been just revised this year (2009). These days, the department is in the process of revising M.A Course to be applicable from the year 2009-2010. I have been actively engaged in designing, revising and up dating the syllabus of different courses of Sociology from time to time. I have also contributed significantly in making research proposals for various projects and programmes for which the department applied to the UGC like ‘Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre’, ‘Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy’ and ‘Special Assistance Programme’ (SAP).
19. What innovations in teaching-learning process have you introduced in the last five years?
Innovations in teaching- learning process in the last five years
We follow interdisciplinary and participatory approach while teaching in the department. M.A. Students are taken for field –tours as a part of their curriculum in order to familiarize them with the filed techniques related to social research and giving them exposure to different cultures. These are a part of compulsory courses on ‘Methodology of Social Research’ (2nd Semester ) and ‘Environment and Society’ (4th Semester). I have taken 3 batches (2003, 2004, 2008) of 2nd Semester (Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand) and two batches (2006, 2007) of the 4th Semester students (Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand).
The discussions are held in tutorials/ team exercises and students make presentations. For some courses like ‘Social Statistics & Computer Analysis’ students use Computer Lab and make power-point presentations with the help of teachers, including myself. During their research, scholars are asked to make presentations of their synopsis, mid-term work and abstract of their final dissertation/thesis. For the last five years (2003-2008) I have been ‘Research In charge’ in the department. Students are encouraged to participate in seminars, workshops and conferences that department organizes frequently. I took personal interest in organizing seminars, writing concept-note and inviting renowned scholars for special lectures for the department as well as Director, Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre.

Evaluation Work: Evaluation work takes lot of my time. Since last 8 years I have been engaged in doing evaluation work for B.A. / M.A./ M.Phil (Sociology) students. The evaluation work is done in every Semester with 400 -800 copies of two courses in each. The numbers of scripts are more because the course is run in DDE and the evaluation work is to be done by the department. Besides, Sociology, I also do evaluation for other subjects like Home Science, Law etc. Sometimes evaluation is also done for other Universities.
Supervising Research: So far, 19 students have completed M.Phil from this department and 9 have been under my supervision. The only Ph.D. awarded in the department, till date was also done under my supervision. At present 25 students are pursuing their M.Phil and of these 10 are working under my guidance. Six research scholars are working for their Ph.D. degree with me.
Organizing Seminars/ Conferences/ Lectures: I have always played an important role in organizing national seminars and conferences of the department. Between 2003 and 2007, 3 national seminars and 3 conferences were organized by the department of Sociology in which a lot of work, including getting funds was done by me. In 2005, 31st all India Sociological Conference was organized by the department in which (besides other work) I edited the volume on ‘Programmes and Abstracts’ of the Conference. For all such activities, I have written the ‘Concept Note’ and prepared ‘Abstract’ as well as conducted the programme and did the reporting.
Institutional Corporate Life: I was Warden, Girls’ Hostel of the University for more than 6 years in which the Hostel functioned smoothly and effectively. Whenever required, I extended my full support for providing accommodation during different occasions. I have been in various Committees formed during conferences by different departments.
