  • Organised IVth NWISA - North West Indian Sociological Association
  • Conference on 20-21st Oct. 2000.

  • Five days workshop organized in collaboration with NCERT to 'Review the Sociology Text Books of Class XIth and XIIth' from 22nd Dec. 2001 to 26th December 2001 at University of Jammu.
  • A 'Corruption Perception Survey of Jammu City' in collaboration with Citizens' Commission for National Issues (CCNI), New Delhi was conducted by the department in March, 2002.
  • A Socio-Economic survey of the villages affected by Sewa Hydro electric Project was conducted in collaboration with Department of Botany, funded by NHPC in March 2002.
  • 'Assessment of School Dropouts' and 'Women Representation in
    Panchayati Raj of Jammu Region', J & K State Resource Centre,
    University of Kashmir, Srinagar in Feb., 2002.
  • Survey of Awareness and Assessment of AIDS in Jammu region in collaboration with ORG Research Group in May 2002.
  • Consultancy in UGC -Special Assistance Programme (S.A.P) cell in the Deptt. of Political science, University of Jammu, Jammu.
  • Visiting Faculty :-

  • Outside experts : 14 experts from different Indian Universities like- JNU, Delhi Univ, Punjab Univ, GNDU Amritsar, Lucknow Univ, Meerut Univ, Sagar University.

  • Internal experts : 10 experts from different deptt. of the University like Law, Pol. Science, Economics, History, and Commerce Science.

  • Activities :-

  • The deptt. has a provision of field tour for familiarizing the students with the field techniques related to social research. The field tour is conducted with an objective of comparative study of different cultures.

  • Keeping the aspirations of society the department extends its expertise in terms of research. It also orients the students for the competitive market. The department invites guest faculty regularly and also conducts seminars and conferences.

  • Department follow cafeteria approach of education in the courses on Research Methods, Human Rights, Ecology and Crime & Society which are being shared by teachers from Political Science., Law and Environmental Science of the University
